Lucky DeBellevue

In some ways Lucky DeBellevue's work fits into the tradition of pop art. It can bring to mind the sculptures of Niki de Saint Phalle and Eva Hesse, with just a touch of children's TV shows from the '70s. His rather quotidian materials-pipe cleaners, cable ties, plastic food trays-are suggestive of, but not bound by, their original function. With them he makes art that refers to history, religion, mysticism, landscape and animals. DeBellevue says that he is "interested in the lines that gets a little fuzzy between the organic and inorganic, window display and installation art, and humor and romantic seriousness." He was born in 1957, in Lafayette, Louisiana, and currently lives in New York City.
